Week 2 of the college football season is officially underway, and as games take place around the country, the Arkansas Razorbacks prepare for their first major test of the 2026 season.
At roughly 9:25 p.m. CT, the Arkansas Razorbacks will kick off against the No. 20 Utah Utes in the first ranked matchup of the Ryan Silverfield era, giving the Hogs a chance to rebound after an underwhelming Week 1 victory against North Alabama. In doing so, the team will tie a program record that has stood for over 20 years.
Arkansas vs. Utah will be latest Razorback kickoff since 2005
The Arkansas Razorbacks' matchup with the Utah Utes is slated to kick off at roughly 9:25 p.m. CT tonight -- the latest kickoff since the Razorbacks played USC at the exact same time back in 2005.
Let's hope that the Hogs' trip to Utah goes better than the team's last late-night matchup out West.
In 2005, Houston Nutt and the Arkansas Razorbacks traveled to play No. 1-ranked USC, and it didn't exactly go well for the Hogs. Thanks to the tag-team efforts of Heisman winners Matt Leinart and Reggie Bush, USC made easy work of the Razorbacks, winning 70-17 in a blowout game that didn't end until 12:44 a.m. CT.

Ryan Silverfield and the Arkansas Razorbacks aren't facing a generational squad like the 2005 USC Trojans, but after the Utah Utes won their Week 1 matchup against the Idaho Vandals 66-14, the Hogs could be in for another long night this Saturday. Utah racked up 633 total yards in the victory, including 364 yards on the ground, meaning Arkansas will need to have a much better showing on offense than it did against FCS opponent North Alabama, which held the Hogs to 14 points until well into the third quarter.
To make things even more daunting, Utah has historically been difficult to beat inside Rice-Eccles Stadium, posting a 125-42 record at the venue since it opened in 1998. Saturday will mark the first-ever meeting between Arkansas and Utah, and between the altitude, late start, and talented Utes squad, Silverfield couldn't have asked for a much tougher introduction to life on the road as Arkansas' head coach.
All eyes will be on quarterback KJ Jackson after his up-and-down performance (three touchdowns, one pick, one lost fumble) last week; that said, the Hogs' offensive line and running backs will also need to take a step forward after Arkansas averaged just 3.0 yards per carry in its season opener.
Hopefully, the late-night kickoff won't decide whether Arkansas leaves Salt Lake City with a win, but a victory would give Silverfield's first road game plenty of historical significance. The Razorbacks haven't beaten a ranked non-conference opponent on the road since their 41-38 double-overtime win at No. 15 TCU in 2016, marking 10 years without such a victory. Now, 10 years later, the Hogs have a chance to end that drought while tying the latest kickoff time in program history.
