5 Arkansas Football transfers that can make-or-break the Razorbacks

The Arkansas Razorbacks are expecting over 40 incoming transfers this season, giving the Hogs a brand-new coat of paint as they enter the Ryan Silverfield era.

The Arkansas Razorbacks football team is less than two months away from its season opener, and fans still know next to nothing about what Ryan Silverfield's first-year squad will end up looking like. With over 40 transfers inbound to the program, it's safe to say that the Hogs have undergone one of the most dramatic makeovers in the SEC.

That said, there are a handful of transfers that could make a major difference for an Arkansas team looking to recover after ending the 2025 season with 10 straight losses. If the Razorbacks are going to outperform expectations in Silverfield's first season, these five transfers may very well play a major role.

Arkansas Razorback football coach Ryan Silverfield enters his first year with the program fresh off the heels of an 8-5 season at the University of Memphis, and it's no surprise that Silverfield has brought several Memphis players with him to Fayetteville. This includes one of the most important additions to the Razorback offense this fall, offensive guard Malachi Breland.

With 19 starts over the previous two seasons at Memphis, Breland was one of the most consistent parts of the Memphis Tigers program from 2024-2025 — a span in which the team won 19 total games. At 6-foot-5 and 334 lbs., Malachi Breland is an imposing presence who could help the Arkansas Razorbacks establish a winning identity quicker than experts expect.

AJ Hill - QB (Memphis)

No position has spurred more conversation this offseason for the Arkansas Razorbacks than quarterback. With Taylen Green gone to the NFL Draft, the Hogs are currently without a proven commodity at QB, with the current position battle revolving around two players: returning Arkansas QB KJ Jackson and incoming Memphis transfer AJ Hill. Hill (6-foot-4, 232 lbs.) was a four-star recruit coming out of high school in 2024, as well as the No. 11 QB in the country per 247Sports, giving him a tremendous pedigree.

Although he struggled a bit in his two appearances as a freshman prior to redshirting, Hill clearly has massive potential as a quarterback. Additionally, AJ Hill has one major advantage over Jackson: he knows Ryan Silverfield's offense. Memphis offensive coordinator Tim Cramsey followed Silverfield to Arkansas, so there's a very real chance they end up going with AJ Hill as the starter by the time the Hogs' season opener against North Alabama rolls around. If this ends up being the case, then the Arkansas football season will live or die by his performance.

Khmori House - CB/LB (North Carolina)

Of the defensive transfers joining the Arkansas Razorbacks, few have turned more heads with their performance than incoming junior Khmori House. Fresh off an All-ACC Honorable Mention season for the North Carolina Tar Heels, House figures to be the Razorbacks' starter at the Star position (a hybrid slot corner/linebacker role), setting him up for a pivotal role in the Hogs' defense this fall.

Arkansas defensive coordinator Ron Roberts primarily utilizes a three-down front, so fans can expect him to lean heavily on the Star position throughout the season. At 6-foot-1 and 202 lbs., Khmori House makes up for his lack of size with tremendous impact at the point of attack, and if he puts together all his skills, then he could help the Razorbacks' defense bounce back from their league-worst performance in 2025.

Jahiem Johnson - CB (Tulane)

The Arkansas Razorbacks had a bottom-two passing defense in both 2024 and 2025, making it no surprise that Ryan Silverfield and his coaching staff targeted several new transfers for the team's secondary. So far, the crown jewel of these defensive transfers has been none other than former Tulane cornerback Jahiem Johnson.

Jahiem Johnson (6-foot, 195 lbs.) picked off four passes for the Tulane Green Wave last season, and in addition to earning All-American Athletic Conference Honorable Mention, he also helped lead his team to the College Football Playoff for the first time in school history. A proven leader, Johnson will help anchor an Arkansas secondary that is returning a single starter in safety Miguel Mitchell, who only started three games last year.

Chris Marshall - WR (Boise State)

Chris Marshall's college journey has been well-traveled. After starting his college career at Texas A&M, Marshall made stops at Ole Miss (where he was dismissed for violating team rules), Kilgore Junior College, and Boise State before finally ending up in Fayetteville. Now, as a redshirt senior for the Razorbacks, he has one final chance to prove why he was an Under Armour All-American coming out of high school.

Marshall has the size, speed, and athleticism to make a significant impact on the Hogs' offense this season — especially considering KJ Jackson or AJ Hill will need all the help they can get as they settle into the starting role. Currently, Chris Marshall is slotted as the team's starting X, and with his frame, he could very well become a much-needed safety blanket for the Hogs' quarterback during trips to the red zone.
