As the transfer portal deadline inches closer, the early waves of offseason movement are already beginning to ripple across college football. One of the latest storylines to emerge involves Arkansas and East Carolina quarterback Katin Houser, after a Razorback recruiting account on X (formerly Twitter) reported mutual interest between the two sides.

What Does Katin Houser Bring to the Table
Houser is coming off a strong 2025 season in Greenville, where he helped lead East Carolina to an 8–4 record (6–2 in the American Athletic Conference). The Pirates fielded one of the league’s most productive offenses, averaging 33.5 points and 464.7 total yards per game, including 280.7 yards through the air. Houser was at the center of that success.
Statistically, the junior quarterback put together an impressive campaign, throwing for 3,300 yards and 19 touchdowns against just six interceptions in 2025. While not known as a run-first quarterback, Houser showed enough mobility to keep defenses honest, adding 193 rushing yards and nine touchdowns on the ground. Over the course of his career, he has accumulated 6,802 total yards passing and rushing. His game is built primarily around operating from the pocket, reading defenses, and delivering the football accurately, a quarterback who wants to dice up opponents through the air rather than rely on improvisation.
Houser’s journey to ECU has been anything but linear. A standout at St. John Bosco High School in California, he entered college football as one of the most respected quarterback prospects in the country. He was an Elite 11 finalist, a consensus four-star recruit, and ranked as the No. 11 quarterback in the 2022 class according to 247Sports. He initially signed with Michigan State in December 2021, redshirted, and later started a season in East Lansing before entering the transfer portal in 2023 and committing to East Carolina.
This offseason would mark Houser’s third school and second transfer, though he still has one year of eligibility remaining. The potential move makes sense contextually, as his offensive coordinator at ECU departed for Ole Miss in the same role, creating uncertainty around continuity in Greenville.
The Fit With the Razorbacks
For Arkansas, Houser would represent a very underrated option at quarterback if the two sides were able to work out an NIL agreement. Offensive coordinator Tim Cramsey has a reputation for adaptability, and Houser’s skill set aligns well with that philosophy. More of a pro-style passer with enough athleticism to adjust, Houser fits the mold of a quarterback who can thrive in a system that mixes and matches concepts rather than forcing a one-size-fits-all approach.
With the transfer portal deadline just days away, the whispers of interest are only getting louder. Early tampering has begun, and once January 2nd arrives, the real chaos is expected to follow.
If Arkansas and Katin Houser do end up linking up, the Razorbacks could be landing a battle-tested quarterback capable of elevating an offense right away.
Buckle them seat belts.
