On paper, the Arkansas Razorbacks might look like they caught a break in the quarterfinals of the SEC Tournament. Instead of facing No. 6 seed Texas A&M Aggies, the Razorbacks will square off against the No. 11 seed Oklahoma Sooners.

But if Arkansas thinks this matchup will be easy, they should think again.

Oklahoma Basketball Is Rolling Into the SEC Tournament Quarterfinals

The Sooners arrive in the quarterfinals as one of the hottest teams in the tournament after dismantling Texas A&M 83–63 in a dominant 20-point victory. The stat sheet shows that Oklahoma didn’t even have its best shooting night from deep, connecting on just 27% of its three-point attempts. Still, the Sooners were efficient overall, shooting 46% from the field while putting together a defensive performance that completely disrupted the Aggies’ offense.

Texas A&M shot just 38% from the floor and an even worse 26% from beyond the arc as Oklahoma controlled the tempo and physicality of the game. The Sooners also dominated the glass, winning the rebounding battle 48–33 behind a double-double effort from forward Derrion Reid.

That dominance inside could present a serious concern for Arkansas.

The Razorbacks enter the quarterfinals fresh after earning a double bye, but rest can be a double-edged sword in tournament play. Oklahoma, meanwhile, has the rhythm of a team that’s already locked into postseason intensity. The Sooners are now riding a six-game winning streak, going back into the regular season, and showing no visible signs of fatigue.

While the extra games could eventually catch up to Oklahoma, Arkansas cannot afford to assume tired legs will slow the Sooners down. Through the early rounds of the tournament, Oklahoma has looked energized, disciplined, and confident, the exact traits that make lower seeds dangerous in March.

Fortunately for Arkansas, the Razorbacks have a veteran voice guiding them through the pressure. Head coach John Calipari has been through countless postseason battles and understands the importance of keeping his team focused on the task at hand. With his experience, Arkansas is unlikely to look ahead or take the Sooners lightly.

Expect the Razorbacks to approach this game with a business-as-usual mentality.

Still, Arkansas has two key areas that must improve if they want to avoid a massive upset: rebounding and defense.

Oklahoma already showed its ability to dominate the boards against Texas A&M, and if the Sooners control the glass again, they could dictate the flow of the game. Limiting second-chance opportunities and matching Oklahoma’s physicality will be crucial for Arkansas.

Defensively, the Razorbacks must also tighten things up. Oklahoma’s offense is capable of getting hot quickly, and allowing the Sooners to find an early rhythm would only fuel their tournament momentum.

What initially looked like a favorable draw has quickly turned into a potential trap game and Arkansas better be on their A-game unless they'll end up being victims to the newest Cinderella story.
