Arkansas football may not be dead after all.
The Hogs head into the locker room all tied up with the No. 12 Tennessee Volunteers, 17-17. The offenses have undoubtedly been the story of the first half, but compared to the first five games of the season, the defense looks much improved. Improved, indeed, but still not that great.
Arkansas football vs Tennessee: Halftime Update
When Taylen Green fumbled deep in Vols territory, Arkansas' defense forced a 3-and-out, and for the first time this season, a first-quarter punt. The next time the defense saw the field, they held Tennessee to only a field goal. To top it off, Arkansas forced another punt right before halftime to keep the score tied.
Still, Tennessee quarterback Joey Aguilar has put up a nice performance against the Razorbacks. He's thrown for 133 yards and a touchdown while connecting on 64 percent of his attempts. His weapon of choice is wideout Braylon Staley, who already has 105 yards on five receptions.
The Vols' rushing attack is still alive and well. Desean Bishop has already run for 78 yards and a touchdown. That's including a 32-yarder up the gut right before the break.
On the other hand, Arkansas' offense has basically done whatever it has wanted. When the Hogs have been stopped, it’s usually been their own doing. Green's fumble was probably the most glaring lost opportunity.
Nevertheless, the Razorbacks put up 252 yards in total offense, with an outstanding 157 of it coming on the ground. Running back Mike Washington is averaging just above nine yards per carry. He already has 100 yards and a touchdown through the first 30 minutes. While Green hasn't done as well on the ground, he had one of the more impressive plays of the weekend. He outran an all-out blitz on third-and-long to gain the first down.

On top of that amazing display of athletic ability, he's done numbers with his arm. Green has 95 yards, splitting the production between wideouts Raylen Sharpe and O'Mega Blake.
The question now is, can Arkansas keep it up? When Tennessee comes out of the locker room, they will have the ball. The Hogs need a big-time stop to keep the momentum on their side.
