The Razorbacks came at their old Southwest Conference foes with everything they had in game one, taking a lead in the series 1-0.
For the first time this season, Texas was shut out with season-low two hits in Arkansas' 9-0 victory over the Longhorns. It was a massive statement from Ace Zach Root, who's struggled over the last few weeks.
"[Coach Matt] Hobbs came up to me yesterday and said that the fans don't buy tickets to come to watch me go four innings, so I took that to heart," said Root after the game. Instead of four innings, Root doubled it, pitching eight innings with 99 pitches and struck out 11 batters.
The bats were alive, but by committee, as all but Charles Davalan recorded a hit. The Horns' pitchers help a little, too, hitting three batters and walking three more.
If Arkansas can pull out tonight's game, it'll end the Razorbacks' three-series losing streak, and knock off the No. 1 team in the nation.
