Saturday's opening game of the Fayetteville regional was everything fans asked for—the fireworks, the drama, the emotions, but most importantly, the victory. Since the Hogs took care of Tennessee 4-3, they're only one game away from making the College World Series for the first time since 2022.
Although the final score might not reflect it, Arkansas' bats had a field day against the Vols pitching staff. Tennessee's day-two pitcher, Marcus Phillips, started the series for the Volunteers, just as he did during the regular season series. However, it didn't play out the same way. Arkansas put up four runs and eight hits in the five-and-one-third innings he was on the mound.
On Sunday, the Hogs will likely face the Vols' ace and Golden Spikes finalist, Liam Doyle. The last time he pitched against Arkansas, it looked more like Phillips' performance on Saturday. The Hogs destroyed him, all except Arkansas' representation in the Golden Spike Award finalist, Wehiwa Aloy. Those two are the matchup of the weekend, with both looking to get revenge in game two of the Fayetteville Super Regional.
