The regular season finale didn't start as planned as Arkansas dropped its first game of the series against Tennessee, 10-7.
The Vols jumped to a 7-3 lead over the Hogs after Gabe Gaeckle gave up three in the seventh inning. Dylan Carter finished off the inning, but Ben Bybee got the nod in the eighth. Both made it through their innings without a blemish.
The Bats came alive with the newfound success on the mound and matched Tennessee's three runs in the bottom of the eighth. However, Dave Van Horn made a very questionable call in the ninth, bringing in Hunter Dietz, who only has 0.2 innings pitched under his belt and had given up a run in the limited action.
Dietz immediately gave up three runs without recording a single out, putting the Vols up 10-6. Arkansas scored a meaningless run in the bottom of the inning, but Tennessee took the victory.
Arkansas is potentially fighting for its Super Regional bid with today's game. If the Hogs lose this series, they'll most likely host a regional but will have to travel in the next round if they lose today or tomorrow.
