The Arkansas baseball team just took a major step in the right direction.
After their disappointing loss against Kansas to end the 2026 season, it was clear that Dave Van Horn and the Hogs baseball team needed an injection of talent going into 2027. Their latest signing — former Tennessee shortstop Manny Marin — is exactly what the Hogs baseball team needed, and his arrival may very well help the Razorbacks bounce back to the top of the SEC following their worst season since 2016.
Arkansas lands Tennessee SS Manny Marin in major transfer portal win

This Tuesday, the Arkansas baseball team announced the signing of Manny Marin: a 6-foot-1 rising junior who previously played third base and shortstop at Tennessee.
During his two years at Rocky Top, Marin batted .287 with 12 home runs, 18 doubles, one triple, and 66 RBI. Additionally, he drew 24 walks and struck out 75 times in 348 at-bats across 113 games at Tennessee. Those numbers make Marin one of the most proven position players available in the portal, and his experience should immediately help an Arkansas team looking to reestablish itself after a frustrating 2026 campaign.
Hogs fans may remember Manny Marin from previous games against the Volunteers. In Marin's career against Arkansas, the third baseman/shortstop went 5 for 19 with two RBI and one run scored, including a two-run single when Tennessee played the Razorbacks at Baum Walker Stadium back in May 2025.
Currently, Marin is ranked as the No. 10 SS in the transfer portal, as well as the No. 119 overall player in the portal. His signing is the latest addition to Arkansas baseball's incoming transfer class, which currently slots at No. 2 in 64Analytics' portal ranking.

While Marin and several other Hogs transfers are eligible for this year's MLB draft, the class is shaping up to be a much-needed influx of talent for Dave Van Horn and the Razorbacks. Marin gives the Hogs another proven infield option, and his ability to play third base and shortstop should provide Van Horn some flexibility as he pieces together next season's lineup
In addition to Manny Marin, the Hogs also signed right-handed Tennessee pitcher Brayden Krenzel on June 13, giving the Razorback baseball team another talented player from their conference rival. Admittedly, Tennessee also had a down year in 2026 under first-year head coach Josh Elander, but for the time being, the signing of Marin and Krenzel offers plenty of reason to celebrate.
There is still quite a bit of work to do before the 2027 season begins if the Hogs hope to improve upon last season, and Marin's MLB draft status will be worth monitoring as the MLB Draft approaches on July 11-12. However, assuming he makes it to campus, the talented 3B/SS could be one of the most important additions of Arkansas' offseason.
