Arkansas baseball has landed Texas Tech Transfer T.J. Pompey in Dave Van Horn's latest move in the portal, the second transfer shortstop this season. After two seasons with the Red Raiders, Pompey will arrive in Fayetteville with two more years of eligibility.
Arkansas baseball lands T.J. Pompey
Out of high school, Pompey was ranked the No. 82 player in the nation and the top shortstop in Texas. Perfect Game also gave him the highest-prospect score of ten.
At 6-foot-4, Pompey is massive for a shortstop, but that didn't stop him from making an impact in his first season in Lubbock. As a freshman, he played in 55 of Tech's 59 games in 2024, touting a .279 batting average, 10 home runs, and 49 RBIs. He was named to Perfect Game's and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association's Freshman All-American teams.
Before his sophomore season, Perfect Game named him a third-team preseason All-American; however, his year did not go as expected. After suffering an undisclosed injury, the ailment sidelined Pompey for all but 19 games in 2025. Still, he put up a .348 average in 69 at-bats with a .623 slugging percentage and a .397 on-base percentage. He also had 15 RBIs, of which one-third were home runs.
Pompey is the seventh transfer this season, joining two more infielders in Dylan Grego and Sherman Johnson.
