Life in the transfer portal era-The annual exodus is underway at Arkansas
The time college football fans look forward to the least is upon us. The transfer portal has made the end of the regular season unbearable because players unhappy with their situation enter in droves. Not even 24 hours after Arkansas's final game, five players have announced their intentions of leaving.
Going into the game Saturday, fans already knew about Jaedon Wilson, Tyrus Washington, Var'Keyes Gumms, and Davion Dozier leaving the program. Wilson was the first. His playing time against UAPB was limited and he left the team only a week later.
Washington and Gumms had no choice but to enter the transfer portal after head coach Sam Pittman removed them from the team after Arkansas's game against Mississippi State. Both discussed the reasons for their departures on local podcasts.
Lastly, Dozier moved on from the team the day before the Mizzou game. All four are pass catchers, leaving the Razorbacks in a bind next season. Receivers Andrew Armstrong, Isaac TeSlaa, and Tyrone Broden are all out of eligibility after this season, so they'll likely have to refill via the portal.
However, the first player to declare for the portal after the regular season waited less than a day. Backup center Amaury Wiggins announced his intentions on X (formerly Twitter) early Sunday morning.
The offensive line was already a position of need going into the offseason, and it's one of the hardest positions to recruit from the portal. Although Wiggins played a support role at Arkansas, his departure leaves the Hogs with one center.
