Former Razorback Moses Moody earns increased role with Steph Curry and the Golden State Warriors
Former Arkansas Basketball player Moses Moody is deep into his rookie season with the Golden State Warriors.
The Little Rock, Ark. native has the fortune of playing alongside some truly fantastic players and brilliant basketball minds: Head Coach Steve Kerr, superstar Stephen Curry, mult-time All-Stars Klay Thompson and Draymond Green.
It’s tough to break through with such a talented team, but Moody has done just that.
Arkansas Basketball player Moses Moody playing major minutes for Warriors
After a slow start to the season and stretches when he didn’t even take the floor, Moody has earned the trust of his head coach.
Kerr recently said he thought Moody was ready to start playing major minutes for Golden State after stretches of excellent play in the G League— the NBA’s developmental league.
Here’s what Kerr had to say at a recent press conference:
"We’ve seen this coming from Moses for a while now. He has continued to get better in practice. He has played well in the G League. He has played well when we’ve given him consistent minutes. He is a guy with good size — really smart and really tough. Moses is going to be a part of things moving forward. He is now at the point where he is ready, as he showed tonight."
Moses Moody competed in 34 of the team’s first 59 games of the season. In those games, Moody had a hard time getting in to a grove, which wasn’t unexpected.
In the first 59 games of the season, Moses Moody averaged:
- 9.5 minutes of playing time
- 3.2 ppg
- 1.4 rpg
- 37 FG%
- 30 3P%
- Appeared in 34 games
Since then (seven games), Moses Moody has averaged:
- 21.1 minutes of playing time
- 11.3 ppg
- 2.9 rpg
- 56 FG%
- 46 3P%
- Appeared in 7 games
During the past seven games, Moody recorded a career-high 13 points vs the Dallas Mavericks on March 3. He followed that up with another career-high of 30 points vs the Denver Nuggets on March 7 when the Warriors rested several key players, including Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson.
Look for Moody to help Golden State as they wind down the regular season and begin final jockeying for seeding in next month NBA Playoffs.
Right now the Warriors have the third-best record in the NBA, trailing only the Phoenix Suns and the Memphis Grizzlies.
