Former Arkansas basketball player Patrick Beverly has made a big impact half-way through his first season with the Minnesota Timberwolves.

The team has been impressed with his work ethic and his veteran leadership that they signed the former Razorback to a lucrative contract extension.

Beverly, in his 10th NBA season, is averaging 9 ppg, 4.4 rpg and a career-high 4.9 apg for the T-Wolves. He is a big reason why the Wolves are competing for a spot in the playoffs, something the young team has only done once since the 2003-2004 season back in the Kevin Garnett era.

Former Arkansas Basketball player gets lucrative NBA contract extension

Earlier this week, ESPN’s NBA Insider Adrian Wojnarowski reported Beverly and the Minnesota Timberwolves agreed to a one-year $13 million contract extension.

This is a massive increase from what the tough-nosed point guard made during his first season in the NBA. After playing overseas for a couple of seasons, the former Hog made a little more than $280,000.

Beverly has since turned into a playoff-tested veteran that’s known for his pesky defensive tactics and toughness. His NBA career has spanned three different teams: Houston Rockets, LA Clippers and now the Minnesota Timberwolves.

The 33-year-old competed for the Arkansas Basketball team from 2006-2008. He was named the 2006-2007 SEC Freshman of the Year and was an All-SEC Freshman that season as well. You might recall some of his memorable teammates during his tenure, too: Sonny Weems (who has had a nice career overseas) and Steven Hill.

He averaged 13 points, 5.5 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game when he was at Arkansas.

Sonny Weems reportedly heckled with racist chants in China. light. Related Story
