The Arkansas football team, fresh off a big win over Penn State in the 2022 Outback Bowl now turns their attention to rebuilding its roster after graduation and transfers.

One player in particular the Hogs should be taking a look at is Oklahoma Sooner Caleb Williams. The star quarterback announced that he’s entering the transfer portal.

Head coach Sam Pittman and Offensive Coordinator Kendal Briles should do everything in their power to try and lure Caleb Williams to Fayetteville. He will likely be competing with Alabama’s Bryce Young to be the favorite for the 2022 Heisman Trophy.

Why the Arkansas Football team should chase Caleb Williams

The number one ranked quarterback for the Class of 2021 was spectacular for the Sooners, beating out Spencer Rattler for the starting spot just a couple of games into the season.

The Washington, D.C. native wowed everyone during the season, helping salvage an Oklahoma season that seemed like it was on the verge of collapsing on itself.

The stats produced by Williams, a true freshman, are off the charts:

  • Passing: 1,912 passing yard, 21 touchdowns, 64.5% completion percentage
  • Rushing: 442 rushing yards, 6 touchdowns, on 79 attempts

Williams didn’t get his first start until Oct. 16 and started the final seven games of the Sooners’ season, including in the 2021 Alamo Bowl win over Oregon.

The rising sophomore will be on a lot of people’s Heisman Trophy watch lists next season.

However, the fact that KJ Jefferson is solidly ensconced as the starter, Williams would likely not consider coming to play for the Razorbacks unless Jefferson also transferred. Seems extremely unlikely that happens.

As unlikely as it may seem, the Razorbacks should do their diligence to get the team’s name out there and get used to recruiting these five-star players.
