Penn State will be without some key players in the Outback Bowl 2022

The James Franklin-led team will be without some key players against Arkansas. Some, even making their announcement less than a week before kickoff.

Safety Jaquan Brisker, wide-out Jahan Dotson, linebacker Ellis Brooks and linebacker Brandon Smith have all opted-out of the game.

Brisker is listed as a top-three safety available in the 2022 NFL Draft, according to ESPN. Dotson, is listed as the number three wide receiver in the draft and will likely be competing with Arkansas’ Treylon Burks for draft positioning.

It’s a shame we won’t see Dotson (1,182 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns) and Burks (1,104 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns ) put on a show in this game.

The Nittany Lions are 3-1 all-time in the Outback Bowl

Penn State is very familiar with this bowl and to the surprise of no one, have had a good amount of success.

  • 2010: Florida 37, Penn State 24
  • 2006: Penn State 20, No. 17 Tennessee 10
  • 1998: No. 22 Penn State 26, Kentucky 14
  • 1995: No. 15 Penn State 43, No. 16 Auburn 14

The Nittany Lions are looking to get their first Outback Bowl win since 2006 when they upset No. 17 Tennessee.

The Razorbacks and Penn State kick off Jan. 1, 2022 at 11 AM CT on ESPN2.
