The Arkansas Razorbacks and Georgia Bulldogs opened the college football season Saturday in Fayetteville.

Arkansas fans were able learn a few things from the game against Georgia on Saturday. When the Arkansas Razorbacks look at the film from this game, they are going to be pleased with several areas of the game but also extremely disappointed in familiar problems appearing at horrible times. For most Arkansas fans, the positives were evident, especially early in the contest.

First the Arkansas defense outplayed Georgia in the first half. The Razorbacks had done an impressive job of keeping the Bulldogs at bay throughout the first half and early in the third quarter. Two players that really distinguished themselves in a positive fashion were safety Montaric Brown and linebacker Bumper Pool. Brown picked off a pass during the game and Pool delivered some hard-hitting blows throughout the game. Hog fans should be pleased by just how hard the defense played against the fourth ranked team in the country.

However, familiar problems began to become evident with the offense. Arkansas had issues sustaining drives and not being able to get the ground game going caused problems. Running back Rakeem Boyd was only able to churn out 21 yards on 11 carries against the impressive Georgia defense. Meanwhile, Treylon Burks was able to get separation from Georgia defenders, accounting for a touchdown and seven receptions, totaling 102 receiving yards. Clearly the offense is a work in progress and getting the rust to wear off may take a few weeks.

The most problematic area for the Razorbacks was the special teams. Arkansas gave up far too many yards in the return game to the Bulldogs. Another area of concern was often Arkansas was pinned back and forced to start a drive deep in Arkansas territory. The effort was evident, but the mistakes must get hammered out and quickly. People around the SEC were to discount the ability Mike Leach has in preparing his team and Mississippi State proved that the Air Raid system would work against LSU and that is who is up next for the Hogs. Buckle up the college football season is heating up!
