The Arkansas Razorbacks have named four captains for the season.

Arkansas Razorbacks’ players named running back Rakeem Boyd, quarterback Feleipe Franks, linebacker Grant Morgan, and defensive tackle Jonathan Marshall. All four individuals have been consistent leaders during the offseason and have not waivered leading up to the Georgia game. The four Razorbacks have experienced the lows and are looking to start the upswing for the football team.

One of Sam Pittman’s biggest recruits when he arrived in Fayetteville, was convincing Rakeem Boyd to return for his senior season. Boyd was NFL draft eligible last season and he was coming off a solid season where he had rushed for 1,133 yards and eight touchdowns. Getting the preseason second team All-SEC running back to return was a major coup for Sam Pittman. Boyd will be leaned upon heavily this season to provide his solid play and his steady leadership. With plenty of youth on the offensive side of the ball, Boyd’s play will be vital for the Hogs.

Feleipe Franks has transferred in from Florida and stabilized the quarterback position for Arkansas. During his career, Franks has thrown for 4,420 yards, 37 touchdowns, and 17 interceptions. Franks came in ready to work and claim the starting quarterback position and his work ethic has spread to the rest of the offense. Most teams want the quarterback to be a leader and to Arkansas fans it is good to see Franks is leading by example.

Grant Morgan is a legacy at Arkansas and him being named a captain should come as no surprise to Hog fans. The Arkansas Razorbacks are in his blood. Grant’s brother Drew was a talented wide receiver, during Bret Bielema’s tenure at Arkansas from 2013-2016. Grant racked up 39 tackles last season and played 338 snaps. Morgan is a grinder and does not shy away from hard work. Morgan has worked his way into lineup. The Arkansas defense will lean on Morgan this season and he should continue to be a leader on and off the field.

Defensive tackle Jonathan Marshall is the fourth captain for the 2020 season. Marshall played 330 snaps and had 17 tackles last season. The defensive line is going to be breaking in some new players this season and Marshall is going to be counted on throughout the season. Marshall has the talent to be a disruptor and shut down the opposing running game. The defense has the potential to be an improved unit of this team this season.

Arkansas has the captains named and now it is time to find out if this team can win. Preparations continue for the Georgia Bulldogs and we should learn quite a bit in week one. Congratulations go out to the captains for displaying the leadership on and off the field. Only nine days away until the SEC opens play.
