Jared Cornelius is a Musical Genius
You think you know Jared Cornelius? The Arkansas Wide Receiver has been balancing his love for both music and football for years. In fact, you can catch him at a Fayetteville venue under the name “DJ Jred”. Here’s his story and examples of his work.
"“I have a love for both; it’s not just music, it’s not just football”"
I’ll go ahead and say it. This is one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen from an Arkansas Razorback.
ESPN released an article on Wednesday telling the off-the-field life of Arkansas receiver Jared Cornelius. In it we found out a ton of things. For one, Cornelius can play seven instruments. Three of them he learned by ear while the others he mastered in his school’s band.
ESPN’s Edward Aschoff writes, “His thirst for rhythm amplified in church, where he’d jam to the beat of the choir’s drum on his hymn book with sticks made from the paper fans.” Jared’s mom bought him his first recording equipment, and Cornelius soon started producing his own music.
Below here is one of his music videos titled “Ramen Noodles”. It’s actually quite impressive, and I think DWR should consider it as a new hype song.
The Hog makes a plan to produce one “beat” every single day during the offseason. Cornelius not only creates his beats at his in-home studio, he makes money doing it. He’s being hired by artists to create beats for them and now makes $50 an hour for recording sessions.
“Since January 2015, Cornelius has produced 295 beats.”
Northwest Arkansas residents can even catch the receiver (pun intended) at Teatro Scarpino, a local venue in Fayetteville. You’ll find Cornelius under the name “DJ Jred”.
Balancing a life of college football and producing music would be hard for some. But the passion that Cornelius shows for both makes it easy. HC Bret Bielema says, “He’s an unbelievable artist, I mean, unbelievable. He’s big time.”
It’s not like Cornelius is some kind of scrub, either. In fact, he’s almost the opposite. Razorback fans know just how important #1 has been to the ever growing receiving corp in Fayetteville. Even after a broken arm early in the 2015 season set him back, Cornelius was still able to put together a seven touchdown season (one for each instrument he plays) both running and catching the football.

So if you catch Bobby “BK” Kitchen’s next album, odds are you’ll be listening to one of DJ Jred’s beats. The path he has chosen as both a football star and musical genius is one unlike any other. Not only can we be excited for his future in football, but also his career in the recording studio.
Jared Cornelius has a gift, and I’m very proud that he’s an Arkansas Razorback.
