Emails from Arkansas AD Jeff Long show his interest in a 2020 neutral site matchup against the Oklahoma Sooners. Is the college football world ready for that kind of madness?

WOO PIG + BOOMER SOONER= WOOMER SOOPIG

That’s right Hog fans, in four short years our Razorbacks might face off against the Oklahoma Sooners.

With emails obtained through an Open Records Act request, OU Sports Extra found emails that AD Jeff Long sent to Oklahoma AD Joe Castiglione back in June of 2014. In the Emails, Long asks Castiglione if he “[has] any interest in playing the proposed FB game in Houston in I believe in 2020?”

Although there is no other information to report, excitement is brewing at realizing what would be an intense Big 12/SEC matchup (or who knows, by then it could be a Big 330/Millennium Falcon matchup–time will tell). Depending on Arkansas’ upcoming performance against the TCU Horned Frogs, Hog fans could be drool at another chance to give the Big 12 a piece of pig. DROOL.

Below here you can check out the full email from Jeff Long.

Dating back to 1899, Arkansas vs Oklahoma has happened 15 times, with the Hogs being 4-10-1 against the Sooners. The last three times we’ve faced off, however, have been in bowl games. The two teams haven’t faced off in the regular season since 1926. We’re due for a rematch.

Personally, I think this matchup would be fantastic. I know that 2020 is a long time away, and although none of us know what our football program will be like, you can’t help but get excited. If the dice roll just right, this will be a big time matchup. Since Bret Bielema’s arrival, Arkansas’ win total has increased with every season. Oklahoma shows no signs of slowing down, as they are coming off a season in which they made the CFB Playoff. Razorback fans would love for this to happen, but by the time 2020 rolls around, will Arkansas vs Oklahoma be a matchup between two teams with elite status?

I don’t mean to be biased here, but the thought of it being that is not too far off. It’s only due time before the Razorbacks can break their spell of getting off to less-than-mediocre starts and start off seasons by playing decent football. I’m not saying we will be #1 in the nation. If anything, Oklahoma will be #1 when if we play them. But solidifying ourselves as a top 25 team and then facing off against an always competitive Oklahoma Sooner team would make for a historic football game. Especially when you consider the fact this regular season matchup hasn’t happened for 90 years, 94 by the time this game rolled around.

Until we further schedule changes, this game will be a hot topic. Oklahoma’s 2020 nonconference schedule only contains Army, while Arkansas is yet to schedule anybody.

So what now? Are we supposed to wait and see if this game is a real thing? You would think that if Jeff Long (Or “JLO” as he signs his emails) still has a legit interest that all of this public awareness would force the two ADs two make a decision. But until a decision is made…

Woomer Soopig.
