As we head into the last week of the SEC Basketball regular season, teams are starting to lock in as the season is coming into a close. However, who’s getting tuned up for the postseason and whose shutting down.  Let’s find out in this weeks SEC Basketball Power Rankings.

Some solid movement in this weeks rankings. Lets see how it stacks out.

14 Missouri Tigers 10-19 Overall (3-13 Conf)

The Tigers had a commendable effort last week, coming out with a two game win streak, but have since slide back into the abyss. Given the fact they end their season with LSU and Florida, they are likely done winning any games for the year.

13 Auburn Tigers 11-17 Overall (5-11 Conf)

This team has been much better without Kareem Canty and the return of TJ Dunans has given them a boost as well. They have went 2-2 over the last two weeks but end with a tough stretch with Texas A&M and Mississippi St. Pearl and the Tigers can look to build towards returning players Dunans, Horance Spencer and Bryce Brown for next year along with a very good recruiting class.

12 Tennessee Volunteers 13-16 Overall (6-10 Conf)

The Vols were able to hang in there for most of the year but the loss of their star Kevin Punter has just been to much over the last week going 0-2. This week won’t be any easier going up against Ole Miss and at Vandy.

11 Georgia Bulldogs 15-12 Overall (8-8 Conf)

The Bulldogs have been struggling the last two weeks (they lost at Auburn for goodness sakes!) but were about to stop the bleeding at home against Ole Miss on Saturday. They’ll have to go on a roll to even have a shot at the NIT at this point. One has to wonder if Mark Fox could find himself on the hot seat sooner rather than later.

10 Arkansas Razorbacks 15-14 Overall (8-8 Conf)

Most though the Hogs were done after the horrible home loss to Auburn a couple of weeks ago. But since the Hogs have found themselves on a nice three game win streak to get themselves to a .500 conference record. The Hogs have finally gotten some good bench play from the likes of Trey Thompson and Jimmy Whitt to help take the load off of guys like Kingsely, Bell and Hannahs. They have also gotten great production from Jabril Durham at the PG spot, tailing 25 assist and NO turnovers the last 4 games.

9 Ole Miss Rebels 18-11 Overall (8-8 Conf)

After waiting for Ole Miss to lock in and start a surge I’m thinking it’s just not going to happen, after they lost to Georgia on Saturday. This looks like an NIT type team at this point.

8 Florida Gators 17-12 Overall (8-8 Conf)

After losing four of their last five the Gators now more than likely find themselves on the outside of the NCAA bubble. However Kentucky is coming into Gainesville for a visit on  Tuesday night, and a win can get them back to where they need to be.

7 Mississippi St Bulldogs 13-15 Overall (6-10 Conf)

Still my pick for a lower seed to make a move in the SEC tournament, as they had another solid week. They played the Aggies close in College Station and whipped the floor with South Carolina on Saturday.

6 LSU Tigers 17-12 Overall (10-6 Conf)

The Tigers finally got back on a winning track Saturday against Florida, though they really really tried to give it away (as they allowed Florida to score 62…..62!!! points). They still have to do plenty of work which would include winning at Rupp on Saturday to have any shot at making the NCAA Tourney at this point. Or of course…winning the SEC Basketball Tournament.

5 Alabama Crimson Tide 17-11 Overall (8-8 Conf)

Alabama hasn’t been as hot as they were a few weeks ago, but still went 1-1 on the week. They’ll have two winnable games to finish off the year playing Arkansas and Georgia this week. Win those and Alabama has a great chance of getting back to the NCAA tournament.

4 South Carolina Gamecocks 23-6 Overall (10-6 Conf)

South Carolina’s road performances have to be driving their fans mad at this point as they just got torn up Saturday at Mississippi St. which we have seen plenty of times this season. They’ll get Georgia at home during the week before traveling to Arkansas Saturday.

3 Vanderbilt Commodores 18-11 Overall (10-6 Conf)

It’s nice to finally see Vandy get it together, as now I believe they are basically a lock for the NCAA tournament as Saturdays win over Kentucky should have sealed the deal. This won’t be a team that you want to see in the SEC tournament. The emergence of Matthew Davis-Fisher has been big for them on their current surge.

2 Texas A&M Aggies 22-7 Overall (11-5 Conf)

After a five game losing streak the Aggies have now won five straight and seem to be back on track. Big man Tyler Davis is back on track which has helped them over the current win streak. They’ll have a must watch game Saturday as Vandy travels to College Station.

1 Kentucky Wildcats 21-8 Overall (11-5 Conf)

The Wildcats will have some hungry teams coming for them this week, as both Florida and LSU will be looking for a big win to help get themselves a resume win. The still seem like a very dangerous team to be going forward, as long as Ulis and Murrary continue to play the way they have.

As we head into the last week its going to be fun to see if a few teams on the bubble can help move themselves up, as well on seeing which team is going to take the SEC Basketball crown as we still have four teams buying for the trophy. Let’s hope it goes out with a bang!
