The Arkansas Razorbacks basketball team goes 0-2 during their round trip through Mississippi with today’s 76-60 loss at Ole Miss. The phrase of the game for Hogs basketball fans was “please just make it stop”.

The question of “Can the Hogs basketball team rebound from the tortuous loss at Mississippi State and pull off the win at Oxford?”, has been answered. Absolutely not. Rebounding was the last thing that the Razorbacks had on their mind as a matter of fact. The Reb’s out rebounded the Hogs 47-29.

Arkansas opened the game with a strong lead. It peaked with a layup from Beard with 10 minutes left in the first, to put it at 19-8 Hogs. By the end of the half, the Razorbacks would let up to allow Ole Miss to narrow the gap to 37-35. Kingsley, who led the team in scoring going into the locker room went 7-8 with a total of 15 points on the board.

Moses was the only reason the Hogs were in the game at all, much less had a lead in the first half. Jimmy Whitt started to get hot towards the end, earning the Hogs 9 points with 3-3 at the free throw line. Bell and Beard would only come up with 5 each for the first. Overall, the Razorbacks would go 13-29 from the field, shooting 44.8% and 25% from the 3 point, with 2-8 shots finding the mark.

From there, Arkansas not only got messy, but they went full-on 40 minutes of fail for the rest of the game. Moses, who had kept the Hogs alive in the first, would go on to score a total of 4 points in the second half.  Feeling a sense of urgency, Bell stepped up to lead the Hogs during the second half, with 11 points bringing him to 16 the total game.

The Razorbacks shot 31.6% from the field and only 20% from the 3. Hannahs, who has been the outer perimeter threat Arkansas has relied on all year, went 0-4 from the field and 0-2 for the 3.  Arkansas fans should probably get used to seeing him having these quiet games, because teams have figured out how to stop him, but going scoreless in games is devastating. This team was just ill prepared for this game. And the lack of depth is starting to become an issue for the Razorbacks.

To put it bluntly, COACHING HAS GOT TO IMPROVE.  I could go on and on about this but I’ll save that for a full article this week.

Players of the Game

  • The entire Ole Miss Team-  You know the saying “It can’t get any worse than this.”? It definitely could have. Had Ole Miss capitalized on every turnover and rebound they got, it could have easily been just as bad as the stomping Mississippi State put on the Hogs.
  • Moses Kingsley- Kingsley may not have been a juggernaut on the score board the whole game, he took this tired and beaten team on his shoulders as far as he could. Where he lacked in points, as far as the team goes, he made up for in rebounds. He lead the team with 13 total rebounds while his teammates more often than not, just stood around and watched.
  • Anthlon Bell- Moses may have kept the team going defensively and on rebounds but the entire second half of offense was all Bell. He may have only gone 3-14 from the field, he did above and beyond at the free throw line going 7-7.

Tweets of the Game

The Arkansas Razorbacks host Auburn next week in a much welcomed return to Bud Walton Arena. The Hogs have 3 home games before taking a 2 game road trip, and then finishing conference play at home vs South Carolina. Arkansas’ hopes for postseason play have pretty much gone up in smoke. All we’re hoping for now is to see the team get some wins to build some form of momentum for next season.
