More Awards and Recognition for Current and Future Razorbacks

The dead period between the final game of the season and a team’s bowl game can turn into a void of news-less nothingness that can leave fans bored until the week of the game. That hasn’t been the case with the 2015 Arkansas Razorbacks.

As you already know, the Hogs have a couple of All-Americans and some AP All-Conference players on the squad. Some more good news has rolled in over the past few days for some individual players, though. There’s also been some increased recognition and respect to a couple Razorbacks commits as well. It’s been another good week for Arkansas.

First off, the Sporting News Freshman All-American team was announced today, and Arkansas’ own Dre Greenlaw made the list. Greenlaw was the only player in the SEC to win the conference “Freshman of the Week” award twice this season, and finished 2nd on the team and 12th in the SEC in total tackles.

Dre was featured on ESPN and the SEC Network with a “Big Man on Campus” segment earlier this year. Here’s the video in case you missed it. Warning: Bring tissues. Dre is an awesome kid, and the Hogs are lucky to have him on the team. Not just because he’s an amazing football player, but because he’s a good person.

Athlon Sports also announced their All-SEC team and their SEC individual awards this week. Greenlaw was named the conference’s “Defensive Freshman of the Year”. He wasn’t the only Razorback making the list, either. You can click here for their announcement and a full list.

Hunter Henry and Sebastian Tretola were first team All-SEC according to Athlon. Joining them on the 2nd team unit was Brandon Allen, Alex Collins, Drew Morgan, and Dan Skipper. It’s easy to see why Dan Enos was their runner up for “Coordinator of the Year.”

More from Razorbackers

And finally, joining Greenlaw on the SEC’s “All-Freshman” team this year is injured Hog running back Rawleigh Williams III. While he only got to play for about half a season, his talent and strength clearly impressed the conference and coaches. Congratulations to Rawleigh, and we wish him a speedy recovery.

Finally, in recruiting news, you may have saw yesterday that the Razorbacks picked up a commitment from Terrance Malone, an offensive lineman from Mississippi. Malone, and his commitment, both flew slightly under the radar these past few weeks. Which is odd, since he is a 6’4, 308 pound JUCO talent. The week before he committed to Arkansas, he started getting the attention of other SEC schools, and picked up an offer to Mississippi State.

After committing to the Razorbacks, Malone has jumped up from a 2 star lineman to a 3 star lineman, and has officially signed on the be a Hog. There’s no way to be sure, but if Malone had held out a little bit longer, he might have been bumped up even more and he drew more attention from bigger schools. Malone could turn out to be a big get for the Hogs.

Next: 2015 Highlights

The Razorbacks coaching staff is hot on the trail for other major recruits, and hopefully will hear some good news before the bowl game. There should also be some early enrollees joining the team this December, including Hope DE McTelvin Agim. If the Hogs finish with 8 wins, and land some of these big recruits, then 2015 could be the sign of a major turnaround in Fayetteville.

Woo Pig.
