#1 Worst: Toledo

Anyone who watched this game knew 2 things by the end of the third quarter: The Arkansas Razorbacks were the better team, and they were going to lose.

This is one of those games that makes no sense. Brandon Allen throws for 412 yards…and no touchdowns. Alex Collins rushes for only 54 yards. Of course there was a safety in a game this dumb as well. Arkansas looked lethargic, and just couldn’t figure out their offense. The defense, honestly, played fine. They only gave up 16 points. But the Arkansas offense, that went on to score 6 or 7 touchdowns in multiple games in 2015, could only get 10 points on the board.

More from Razorbackers

What a dumb game. It’s the reason that the Hogs, winners of 6 of their final 8 games, aren’t ranked right now. No one really knows why the team played so bad. Some folks blamed Little Rock. Others blamed the coaching. Personally, I think it was a combination of watching their teammates go down one by one to injury, having a brand new OC that had just lost 4 of his top 6 weapons, and poor coaching. Plain and simple, the Razorbacks won in every category that day except the points column.

It’s not the worst lost in Arkansas history by any means. Hell, there are kids on that team right now that were in Little Rock for an even worse loss. But in a season like 2015, where a slow start and close losses have become the difference between 7-5 and 10-2, the Toledo loss hurt.

The Razorbacks carried this anti-momentum into Fayetteville to get beat by Texas Tech as well. I fully believe that the Toledo hangover was in full effect in the TTU game. And to top everything off, the media turned on Arkansas and Bret Bielema on a damn dime after the Toledo loss. Bret had made a comment about Ohio State’s weak schedule, only to turn around and lose to the 4th best team in Ohio 5 days later. Poor timing for sure.

All in all, the Toledo loss is palatable now that we’re in a bowl game. But it still doesn’t taste very good.
