Devwah Whaley Decommits from UGA
By Cory Thone
Devwah Whaley, a 4 star running back from Beaumont, Texas, has decommitted from the University of Georgia tonight. Whaley committed to the Bulldogs on November 26th, but that was when Mark Richt was the head coach. That is no longer the case, as Richt is out and Alabama defensive coordinator Kirby Smart has been announced as the new head Dawg.
Whaley holds offers from 21 different schools, but has had Arkansas listed as one of his top choices for quite some time. His commitment to UGA actually came as a surprise to the Arkansas coaching staff, as he had just visited Fayetteville 5 days prior. By all accounts, his visit to NWA was a good one, and he left impressed with the coaches, game plan, and facilities.
The Razorbacks are probably still in the running for Whaley, as well as Spring Hill, Louisiana running back Devin White. White visited the University of Arkansas last weekend, and brought pretty much his whole family. White would be an early enrollee, along with Hope defensive end McTelvin Agim.
So where does this leave Whaley for the Razorbacks? He is assuredly still a top target for the Hogs. In fact, Arkansas would love to have both Whaley and White in the backfield. Bret Bielema has shown that he can use multiple talented backs better than maybe any other coach in the nation. In 2013 and 2014, Johnathan Williams and Alex Collins both had dual 1000 yard seasons. No other team can make a claim to a stat like that.
The Razorbacks have made some big time moves in recruiting these last few weeks, getting serious consideration from both the top high school and JUCO talent across the country. Devwah Whaley coming back onto the market is big news for Arkansas. He and White would make potentially the best running back tandem in the country by the time they’re sophomores. Add them to the already talented list of returning running backs for 2016, and Arkansas could be the next Running Back U.
