Bret Bielema Unveils ’64 Arkansas Razorbacks Throwbacks on Twitter
By John Follett
One more reason to love Bret Bielema: his use of social media to hype the Hogs. The Arkansas Razorbacks head coach took to Twitter on Thursday night, unveiling the throwback uniforms to be worn by the Hogs this Saturday.
"Excited to honor the 1964 Arkansas National Championship team with special uniforms this Saturday! #WoooPig–@BretBielema"
The Arkansas Razorbacks’ decision to honor the ’64 team couldn’t be more appropriate than with Alabama in town. Some may remember the Hogs finished the 1964 season with a 10-0 record and were crowned National Champions by the Football Writers Association of America. The Crimson Tide also finished the ’64 season unbeaten and were crowned National Champions by the Associated Press; Arkansas would finish with a #2 ranking.
While the rest of the stadium is on a “stripe out” this Saturday, the Arkansas Razorbacks will be dressed down. No black, no gray, and no trendy patterns. The Arkansas football team will take the field channeling the 1964 squad in uniforms that look a lot like, well…the Alabama Crimson Tide.
