Arkansas Football: Inside Look at Incoming Transfer Demetrius Wilson
By Ryan Wright
Fayetteville, Ark. – The Arkansas Razorback coaching staff always has an exceptional eye for evaluating skill position talent and that trend continues with incoming Glendale Community College transfer Demetrius Wilson.
Wilson, 6’2”, 170 pound junior, joins an Arkansas Razorback squad in need of college game experience at the wide receiver position after the graduation losses of Jarius Wright, Greg Childs, and Joe Adams at the conclusion of the 2011 college football season.
In 2010 Wilson posted 733 receiving yards on 29 catches with four touchdowns earning him first-team ACCAC honors in just six games of action for Glendale Community College. During his sophomore campaign he improved upon his statistics from the previous year by hauling in 51 catches in 12 games totaling 927 receiving yards with 10 scores. For his efforts he was again awarded first-team All-ACCAC.
Vaqueros head coach John Rome also handed the ball off to Wilson six times allowing him to gain 62 rushing yards in 2011.
Wilson’s on the field versatility was not limited to offense as he was used on special teams as a punt returner. Flashing his 4.4 forty-yard speed in the open field, Wilson led the Vaqueros with 289 total punt return yards taking one to the house.
Originally from Millennium High School in Goodyear, Ariz. Wilson committed to Arkansas despite offers from in-state schools Arizona and Arizona State. At one time University of Tennessee was his top choice. He officially visited the Vols on Jan. 13.
Wilson committed to the Hogs on Jan. 29, nine days after his official visit to Arkansas’ campus.
