Arkansas Razorback defensive coordinator, Paul Rhoads said in a press conference that he is grateful for the opportunity and challenge.

On Saturday head coach Bret Bielema and new defensive coordinator, Paul Rhoads had plenty to say. The highlight from Rhoads was his apparent eagerness to take on the challenge that lays ahead of him and the obvious love of his players.

Last season, Robb Smith told fans to “trust the process” when talking about his defense. Well, not even his bosses were trusting him and his process. Smith cited a “philosophical difference” with Bielema when trying to solve the problems on defense as his reason for leaving.

Rhoads made a similar comment about the process in his presser but there is a bit of a difference in the two. Fans trust Rhoads a lot more. It also seems that the players were very happy with Rhoads getting the job as well.

"“I don’t want to come across the wrong way, but I’d say no, it didn’t surprise me but I would add to that, I was excited to get that kind of response. ” Paul Rhoads when asked if it surprised him how happy the players were to hear about his promotion."

Rhoads made sure to say that there were no talks of the scheme in their meeting but that he discussed fundamentals and getting his guys technically sound.  He said on the topic that everyone is going to get sick of hearing about the fundamentals and the process of doing it the right way.

It was no shock to me and should be no shock to you that Rhoads took over in Smith’s absence. Rhoads was successful as a DC at Pitt and at Auburn and is loved by the players. I had the honor of meeting him in the preseason period last year and I have to say, I can see why his players like him. Rhoads is a genuinely great guy. Also, anyone that’s around him for five minutes can tell, he loves the kids he coaches. I’m excited to see him work. Woo pig!
