Major League Football, a new professional startup league, will be playing a ten game season from April to July of this year. Eight teams will be included in the league, and Little Rock will apparently be one of them.

You heard it here, folks. The Rock is getting a team of it’s own. I won’t lie, this is pretty darn awesome.

Major League Football is a new startup professional team that will begin their season this April and continue their season all the way until July. Ten regular season games will be played and then there will be a playoff. It’s announced that eight cities will have teams of their own, and one of them will be hitting right here in Little Rock.

Reports have flown around that Major League Football (MLFB) has officially trademarked eight teams for the 2016 season. Arkansas has one of those teams.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I present to you….

ARKANSAS ATTACK

Arkansas Attack has been officially named one of the teams for the MLFB 2016 season. The other seven teams are as follows: Alabama Airborne, Florida Fusion, Utah Stand, Texas Independence, Oklahoma Nation, Ohio Union, and Northwest Empire (Based in Eugene, OR).

Arkansas was a great choice for the pick. It was also announced that Little Rock would be the city that the Attack will play in. Which makes sense, since we have a thing called War Memorial Stadium. Maybe the Attack will break the curse for us while they’re there. Probably not though.

I bet I know what you’re thinking…why that name? And I completely understand. There could have been much better names for the teams than what was chosen. I mean, the Utah Stand? Who in their right mind would want to go to a game to watch stand people? Or who would want to go to Utah?

In light of MLFB’s Arkansas team being called the Attack, the staff and I here at Razorbackers put together some names of our own that should have been considered. We’re sorry if we offended anyone in this process.

What They Should Have Named the Team:

  1. The Little Rock Nine-ers (Yeah, I went there)
  2. Little Rock Little Rocks
  3. Little Rock Bombers (Cuz they be throwing bombs, yo)
  4. Arkansas Razorblacks
  5. Arkansas Obsesities
  6. Little Rock Warlords
  7. Little Rock Shots Fired
  8. Arkansas Jerry Jones is From Heres
  9. Little Rock Bolos
  10. Arkansas Attackers
  11. Little Rock Beer Guts
  12. Arkansas Moonshiners

Although our names will most likely not change the minds of the MLFB officials, I am still excited for this news of Arkansas having a new team.

In the past, somewhat-professional teams haven’t done so well in The Rock. Anybody remember the Arkansas Rimrockers? They were a NBA Development team in Little Rock that stayed for about three years before vanishing. Then there was the more popular Arkansas Twisters, an arena team that played at Verizon. The Twisters stayed for a decade before the AFL was forced into bankruptcy. Then in 2010, the Indoor Football League brought the Arkansas Diamonds into Verizon. After just one season the Diamonds had to relocate to Texas because of financial troubles.

So will having another “professional” team in Little Rock work out this time? I guess we’ll have to wait and see.

Another thing I’m very excited about is the chance of having a former Razorback play for the Attack. MLFB had their very first day of drafts just a few days ago, and with the first pick former Dallas Cowboys Head Coach Dave Campo selected former Arkansas star WR Joe Adams. What these types of leagues love to do is pick former players from the area onto their team so they will attract more attention.

It can be automatically assumed that Dave Campo will be the coach of the Arkansas Attack. With the draft still going on, Campo has picked many former Hogs and in-state players onto his squad. Here are a list of those players:

  • Alonzo Highsmith- Arkansas
  • Jerico Nelson- Arkansas
  • Damian Lee- UAPB
  • David Oku- Arkansas State
  • Carroll Washington- Arkansas
  • Sam Irwin-Hill (Ambidextrous Australian)– Arkansas
  • Daniel Riley- Harding
  • Maxie Graham- Henderson State
  • Javon Ross- Henderson State
  • Justin Martin- Arkansas Tech

Here’s a promo for the MLFB on their Youtube channel (a whopping 152 subscribers!)
