Arkansas Razorbacks vs LSU Tigers: Staff Predictions

facebooktwitterreddit

Staff predictions are the kind of thing that only exists so our readers can make fun of us when we’re wrong. Last week, the majority of the staff here at Razorbackers picked the Ole Miss RebelSharks to win. All of us were elated to have gotten a win in Oxford. We’ve never been more happy to be wrong.

So, just like last week, I’m putting all of our twitter handles into our predictions. Because after the win last week, several fans felt the need to come let us know that we picked wrong and that we’re stupid. Which is fine with us. Thanks for reading!

But in all seriousness, you should let us know if you agree or disagree with these predictions in the comments, or on our Facebook and twitter pages. It’s what they’re there for. So, without further ado, here are the Razorbackers staff predictions for the LSU game.

More from Razorbackers

Blake Smith – I thought Brandon Allen would have a big game against Ole Miss, but didn’t expect 400+ yards and 6 TD’s big! Kid’s on fire! Vegas has the Hogs a 7 point underdog to LSU in “Corndog Valley.” However, LSU got beat up by a tough Bama team, so hoping they’ll still be hungover from that. On defense, the Hogs front 7 will have to hold Fournette to 100 yards or less, and make LSU throw with a sophomore, who hasn’t had to do much this season. On offense, LSU’s pass defense ranks right around the middle of the country, so another good day for Allen could be in the works. However, running will be tougher as LSU brings a top 15 run defense into the game. I will note though, they did get gashed for 200+ yards by Derrick Henry last weekend. Keeping LSU off balance and crowd out of it will be key. I have the Hogs getting their 4th straight win, becoming bowl eligible, and keeping the golden boot in a wild 34-28 ball game.

Jose Harber – Even before the Ole Miss game, I was confident that the Hogs could compete and beat LSU. But now the time has come, and I’m not so sure. The Hogs defense has been awful, and the poor tackling doesn’t bode well against a guy like Leonard Fournette. Thankfully, LSU is pretty one dimensional on offense and Bama just gave the nation the blueprint to beat the Tigers. Tiger Stadium is not an easy place to win and the Hogs offense will need to be on point to compete with the Tigers defense. Not many people picked Arkansas to beat Ole Miss, including me, but not this time. Last year the Tigers lost to Bama and Hogs took advantage the next week. It’s not a shut out, but I think Hogs continue their win streak and keep the Golden Boot. Hogs win 35-32.

Matt Jenkins – Is there anything else that can happen to the Razorbacks? Miracle plays? Been there done that. Overtime games? Please no more, my blood pressure can’t handle it. Luck? Keep it coming! Riding a three game win streak, the Razorbacks go to where dreams die, as tabbed by ole Lester Miles. Can the Hogs win another road game? The Hogs will have to contend with one of the nations best running backs in Leonard Fournette, who’s coming off one of his worst games of his career against Alabama. Expect LSU to be motivated and ready to go. You can bet Arkansas will be ready. The keys comes down to one thing: defense, plain and simple. We all know Arkansas’ defense isn’t good. But if they can come up with a couple stops and control the clock, Arkansas can walk out of Baton Rouge with a W. Considering we gave up 52 points last week, my faith is low. Arkansas will fight valiantly, but will come up short. LSU beats Arkansas 38-35.

Barrett Pfeiffer – The Razorbacks most definitely have a tough game on their hands. After a 17-0 defeat last year to Arkansas, and now coming off of an embarrassing loss to Alabama, LSU will be looking for some good ol’ revenge. But that doesn’t mean the Arkansas Razorbacks are just going to give up and die. The Hogs will be led by BA and Alex Collins, who will both have memorable games. I believe Fournette will be short of 100 yards for the second week in a row, and the Hogs will finally learn to tackle. With Arkansas putting up 40+ points three weeks in a row, their juice is going to run short on Saturday. I say the Hogs pull out yet another nail biter at Death Valley by a score of 21-17.

Chris Jackson – Leonard Fournette decapitates 2 defenders in one play, but gets ejected for offensive targeting. Without Fournette, Arkansas rolls over LSU. Hogs win 31-28

Cory Thone – The Arkansas Razorbacks are a scrappy team. It actually feels weird how confident I am heading into the LSU game. After the Texas Tech loss, even the most optimistic fans were thinking that this team was going to sink. Look at them now. I think Arkansas is going to keep this game close. They have all the confidence in the world, and are playing red hot. And even though my heart is telling me to pick the team on the win streak, I just can’t pick against LSU at home. Especially in a night game. (Also, every time I pick the Hogs to lose, they win…soooo..)

Arkansas falls short in a close game 35 – 31.

So the Razorbackers staff is far more confident this week in the Hogs ability to win on the road. Hopefully that confidence from fans will result in a confident performance from the Hogs. The staff here picked the Hogs to win by a 4-2 margin. Let us know if you agree of disagree! We’ll see you guys after the game for our postgame updates and videos.

Woo Pig!
