Fayetteville, Ark. – The long wait for Razorback Nation to see their preseason No. 1 team in the nation take the field at Baum Stadium was awarded with a dominating performance over Western Illinois winning 9-1.
First baseman Eric Fisher had an excellent game back for the Hogs after redshirting last season, against the Fighting Leathernecks he went 3-4 with a homer and three RBI.
Preseason All-American pitcher Ryne Stanek notched his first win of the season throwing four innings, recording four strikeouts, while giving up only two hits with one homerun in the fourth inning to centerfielder Dan Dispensa.
The Hogs shutdown the Leathernecks offense only allowing three hits in the game. Arkansas’ bullpen threw five innings of one-hit ball picking up where they left off last year, dominating the opposition.
Arkansas jumped on Leathernecks starting pitcher Nick Smith early getting two runs in the first and five in the third before Smith was taken out of the game.
The offense for Arkansas produced eight hits but showed excellent patience at the plate drawing 12 walks while only striking out three times.
Game two of the three game series is scheduled to start tomorrow at 12:05 p.m. with Barrett Astin squaring off against Tyler Willman.
