Fayetteville, Ark. – The Arkansas Razorback coaching staff has picked up some momentum on New Jersey dual-threat quarterback/athlete Damon Mitchell leading some to wonder if he maybe the next college football recruit to flip to the Hogs.
Mitchell, 6’2”, 190 pounds, 4.5 forty-yard dash speed, is scheduled to visit the Arkansas campus this weekend (Feb. 1). The only catch for Mitchell should he go to Fayetteville is his scholarship offer to Georgia Tech might be taken away.
Yellow Jackets head coach Paul Johnson has had a very strict rule with verbally committed players over the past four years, once you commit one cannot visit other schools or else your scholarship offer to Georgia Tech will be pulled.
Mitchell has been committed to Georgia Tech since July 14, 2012.
The hard-line stance may make sense to some but at the same time this makes Johnson look like a poor competitor in a game full of competition not only on the field but also on the recruiting trails.
Bielema did an in-home visit with the four-star prospect earlier this week, which reportedly went well.
Mitchell has scholarship offers from Iowa, Rutgers, Syracuse, Wisconsin, and Boston College among others.
Rivals ranks the Egg Harbor City recruit as the No. 15 dual-threat quarterback in the nation while 247Sports rates him at No. 11.
