The Arkansas coaching staff got a key walk-on from junior college full-back Patrick Arinze when he enrolled for the spring semester earlier this month.
Arinze played his high school ball for St. Augustine High School in San Diego. As a high school senior he was listed at 5’10”, 200 pounds. Playing for Grossmont Community College in El Cajon, CA, during his freshman season he was listed at 220 pounds.
Solid information on Arizne is hard to find but piecing the puzzle together he played for the Griffins during the 2010 and 2011 season but had a knee injury somewhere during the 2011 season. He was not overly used as a lead runner but evidently was a really strong lead blocker.
What happened to Arizne in 2012 is a mystery at this point. The Grossmont College football webpage is spotty with information and has little to nothing on 2011.
Arinze could be a key replacement for senior fullback Kiero Small.
The other key walk-on for Arkansas is former four-star quarterback/athlete A.J. Derby (6’4”, 218 pounds). Derby enrolled at Arkansas for the spring semester announcing his decision in Dec. 2012. The Iowa native comes to Arkansas after a successful stint at Coffeyville Community College and after two years at the University of Iowa.
