Fayetteville, Ark. – The Arkansas Razorbacks look to bounce back after a tough road loss to Ole Miss on Saturday when the Mississippi State Bulldogs come to Fayetteville on Wednesday.
Arkansas (11-6, 2-2) tried to keep the game tight with Ole Miss on Saturday but faltered down the stretch losing 76-64. Mississippi State comes to town having lost their last two SEC games and five of six road games during the 2012-2013 college basketball season.
The Bulldogs got a surprising 11 point road win against Georgia after squeaking out a two point home win against South Carolina to start conference play. Since then MSU lost by 32 to Alabama and 15 to Tennessee on the road.
Against teams with height and strong three-point shooting Mississippi State has struggled mightily. Look for Arkansas to wear down the Bulldogs with their up-tempo style of play.
Guard Jalen Steele is the Bulldogs go-to guy on offense. Steele averages 11.1 points per game for the depleted MSU lineup. Guard Fred Thomas, coming off a strong game against Tennessee, is third on the team averaging 10.3 points per game and forward Roquez Johnson is second on the team with a 10.8 per game average.
Gavin Ware leads the team in rebounding pulling down 7.1 per game.
Arkansas got a strong game from forward/center Hunter Mickelson against Mississippi during their last game. Mickelson and junior forward Marshawn Powell should have opportunities to exploit the undersized front court of the Bulldogs.
Tip off is scheduled for 8 p.m. CT Wednesday, January 23, at Bud Walton Arena.
