Fayetteville, Ark. – The Arkansas Razorbacks secured their second SEC win of the 2012-2013 season in dramatic style on Wednesday night beating the Auburn Tigers 88-80 in double-overtime.
With Arkansas up three, 67-64, and 25 seconds left in the game, Arkansas guard Mardracus Wade missed a pair of free throws that would sealed the game for the Razorbacks at the end of regulation. With 5.4 seconds left in the game Auburn forward Allen Payne hit a three-pointer to send the game into overtime.
In the first overtime both teams scored eight points to send the game to a second overtime when the Hogs outscored the Tigers 13-5 to win the game.
Auburn was led by senior guard Frankie Sullivan’s 26 points, nine points above his season average of 17.2 points per game. Sullivan also added a team-high 11 rebounds.
The Hogs got several noteworthy performances up and down the roster. Junior forward Marshawn Powell scored a game-high 28 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. Guard BJ Young added 22 points and nine rebounds.
The Hogs out rebounded the Tigers 38-35. Auburn felt comfortable in Bud Walton Arena shooting 11 of 25 from behind the three point line (.440 percent).
Arkansas improved to 11-5, 2-1, with the win. Auburn dropped to 8-8, 2-1, with the loss.
Next up for the Hogs is a road trip to Ole Miss (14-2, 3-0) on Saturday Jan. 19, 1:30 p.m. ET.
