Arkansas Razorback Football: News and Notes

The depth at running back for Arkansas head coach Bret Bielema is quickly depleting. On Tuesday true freshman running back Donovan Roberts alerted Razorback Nation via Twitter that he was not returning to Arkansas for the spring semester.

Roberts posted on Twitter:

Attention followers. I will NOT be attending the University of Arkansas this coming semester.Salute to the real the rest can deal.#new-slate

Arkansas lost running backs Dennis Johnson and Ronnie Wingo, Jr. to graduation and Knile Davis as an early NFL entry at the end of the 2012 college football season.

The Hogs will have true sophomores Jonathan Williams and Nate Holmes, redshirt senior Kiero Small (fullback), and redshirt sophomore Kody Walker as the only returning running backs with legitimate SEC experience for the 2013 college football season.

Altee Tenpenny update

Arkansas assistant coaches Jim Chaney (offensive coordinator) and Joel Thomas (running backs) scheduled an upcoming in-home visit with North Little Rock running back Altee Tenpenny. Tenpenny, an Alabama commitment, is scheduled to visit Tuscaloosa this weekend and the Hogs on Jan. 18.

One can only hope that Tenpenny will see the opportunity he has for immediate playing time with the Hogs verses playing for Alabama. The Tide signed two highly recruited running backs last season and will return Jalston Fowler and Dee Hart from injuries next season. True freshman T.J. Yeldon will return, expect junior Eddie Lacy to be an early NFL entry.

Alabama has two other running back commitments for the 2013 class, five-star Derrick Henry and four-star Tyren Jones.

Good deal

Former Arkansas Razorback quarterback Tyler Wilson signed with heavyweight agency CAA in December. CAA is known for aiding their clients to better NFL draft positions.

Look for Wilson to show off his stuff in Senior Bowl practices.

Tight End Coaching Search

Arkansas head coach Bret Bielema reportedly interviewed former Arkansas quarterbacks John Bond (1982) and Barry Lunney Jr., (1992-1995) for the open tight end coaching position.

Lunney (Fort Smith) is currently the offensive coordinator for Bentonville High School and Bonds (Rogers) is the offensive coordinator for Georgia State. Both coaches have strong ties to the state of Arkansas which is something Bielema is seeking from candidates for his final staff opening.
