The preseason All-SEC team keeps taking hits week after week. This week the biggest injury update is the loss of South Carolina’s running back Marcus Lattimore for the remainder of the year.

Lattimore finished his season ranked No. 6 on the overall SEC rushing list, at the time of the injury, with 662 yards and 11 rushing touchdowns. Lattimore suffered a dislocated knee against Tennessee in a gruesome hit that one will never forget if they saw the injury live. Lattimore’s promising NFL future is in doubt but the early diagnosis is he could be back on the field by 2014.

Arkansas has been without a starter in every game this year and this week against Tulsa is no different. The Hogs will be without preseason All-SEC running back Knile Davis (hamstring) and tight end Chris Gragg (leg/bone bruise). They will be without wide receiver Brandon Mitchell as well.

Davis was held to two rushes for three yards before being injured against Ole Miss last week. Gragg had a touchdown catch before being hit low on the exact same play that caused him to miss a month of action from the Rutgers game.

Mitchell was held out of the game against Ole Miss for unknown reasons. All that is known is he is not injured. Speculation runs anywhere from illegal contact with an agent, receiving gifts to academic problems. A Freedom of Information Act search of Arkansas Razorback emails by a local media outlet did not generate any eye popping news. Time will tell if Mitchell is out for the remainder of the year or if he will be cleared to play soon.

Auburn head coach Gene Chizik’s job has been on the hot seat all season and he might be in trouble when lowly New Mexico State rolls into town. Auburn will start true freshman Jonathan Wallace this weekend. Wallace was a dual threat quarterback in high school. Expect him to tuck and run like most freshmen due when under duress.

The Tigers are heavy favorites entering the game and should win hands down on talent alone but a closer score than anticipated could raise eyebrows to the lesser informed.

Missouri gets good news with the return of quarterback James Franklin. Franklin gets a tough draw facing Florida on the road but the return of Franklin over the final three games on the Tigers schedule should help Missouri’s chances of becoming bowl eligible. The good news for Missouri fans is Florida is limping into the game with several injuries of their own. The advantage goes to the swamp.

The top game of the week, perhaps the season, is Alabama vs. LSU. Bama appears to be the healthier of the two squads entering the game even though LSU had a bye week to prepare.

The game should rest on the play under center from either team. The nod goes to McCarron but fans have to wonder just how gimpy his back will be by game’s end. Playing behind a future NFL offensive line should keep McCarron upright but playing against some NFL defenders could cause problems for Alabama’s passing attack.
