2012 College Football: SEC Week One Injury Updates

Each year every college football coaching staff and respective fans hope their team makes it through spring practice, fall camp, and the regular season without any significant injuries. Heading into the 2012 college football season several SEC teams are already behind the eight ball due to fall camp injuries and suspensions.
The University of Missouri is one of two new teams to the conference looking to make a grand entry in conference play. Looking over their two-deep chart mixed with the piling injuries, Tiger fans maybe in for a grueling initial jaunt through the SEC.
Missouri has 11 total players that are either out or doubtful for their home opener against Southeast Louisiana on Saturday. Most notably last year’s starting running back Henry Josey remains sidelined with a knee injury suffered last year against Texas and starting offensive guard Travis Ruth will miss the entire 2012 season due to a triceps injury.
Fellow SEC East members Georgia and South Carolina have question marks on both sides of the ball before the season’s first coin flip.
Georgia has four players suspended for their road opener against Vanderbilt with another three players that could miss time. Little information has come out of the Commodores camp regarding preseason injuries. Going into opening kick Vanderbilt appears to be a healthy team.
South Carolina claims Lattimore is 100 percent after missing the second half of last season but time will tell how long he can hold up against opponents taking shots, cheap or otherwise, at his surgically repaired knee.
Gamecock backup running back Brandon Wilds is expected to miss two to three weeks with an ankle injury leaving starting quarterback Connor Shaw’s bad back and backup Kenny Miles to carry the load running the ball.
