College Football: Hogs Add Linebacker to Commitment List

Fayetteville, Ark. – The Arkansas Razorback coaching staff added another verbal commitment on Wednesday in an area of immediate need come 2013… linebacker.

Arkansas gained the verbal commitment of junior college linebacker Myke Tavarres out of College of Siskiyous. Tavarres, 6’2” 220 pounds, becomes the second linebacker commitment to the Hogs 2013 class and No. 11 overall.

Speculation had Tavarres splitting his decision between University of Arizona and Arkansas before calling the Hogs on Wednesday. Tavarres had other early offers from Oregon State, Texas Tech, Rutgers, and Nevada.

In 2011 the speedy linebacker totaled 51 tackles, 39 unassisted, with 5 sacks and 1 interception.

The Hogs signed three linebackers in their 2012 class with only two reporting (Otha Peters and A.J. Turner). Arkansas has several linebackers that fit their system as outside linebackers but none that are true SAM or SEC middle linebackers; 6’2’, 245 pounds plus.

Arkansas will graduate starting linebackers Alonzo Highsmith and Tenarius Wright at the conclusion of the 2012 season. Look for the Hogs to add a couple more linebackers to their recruiting class before a final class is announced in February.
