Monday morning the NCAA will officially announce the remaining 48 of the 64 Division-I teams that will have a shot at reaching the College World Series come June 15-25.
The first 16 into the 2012 NCAA Regionals includes:
Florida
Florida State
UCLA
Baylor
Oregon
North Carolina
LSU
Texas A&M
South Carolina
North Carolina State
Rice
Stanford
Miami
Virginia
Purdue
Arizona
Of the top teams, which teams won their end of the season conference tournaments?
Purdue was the only regional host to win their post season conference tournament. UCLA won the Pac-12 but the Pac-12 does not have a post season conference tournament.
Whose in and whose out?
Of the teams that won their tournament only Utah Valley of the Great West Conference will not receive an automatic bid to the 64-team field in 2012.
The NCAA has 31 Division-I conferences with each conference awarded an automatic bid other than the Great West Conference off their post season tournament.
The NCAA fields 64 teams in the college baseball regionals, 16 teams have been announced (48). Of the 16 announced two teams represent conference winners, Purdue and UCLA, meaning 29 different teams will receive automatic bids.
This leaves 19 at-large bids left among the 291 total Division-I teams.
64 – 16 = 48
48 – 29 = 19
