Fayetteville, Ark.- Arkansas head coach John L. Smith made his first administrative move during his early tenure with the Razorback program by granting wide receiver Quinta Funderburk his release from his athletic scholarship on Wednesday.

Funderburk, 6’4”, 200 pounds, was a three-star (Rivials.com) 2011 recruit of the Razorbacks out of Oscar Smith High School in Chesapeake,Virginia. Arkansas signed Funderburk over offers from Alabama, USC, Florida, Penn State,Virginia, Virginia Tech, and many other top programs.

Funderburk was an early enrollee at Arkansas but missed time last spring returning to Virginia because he was homesick. At one point last spring a Virginia media outlet reported Funderburk was not returning to the Arkansas football team.

The talented receiver redshirted during the 2011 college football season and was listed as a third string receiver on the Razorback depth chart during spring practices.

Funderburk’s High School Receiving Statistics:

2010: 64 receptions, 1,412 yards, 15 touchdowns

2009: 62 receptions, 1,150 yards, 12 touchdowns
